Jane joined Gateway in June, 2000 as Director of Public Health Initiatives. Her primary responsibility is to help increase immunization rates in Greater Newark among infants ages 0-35 months. Jane coordinates the Essex Metro Immunization Coalition (EMIC), a group composed of more than 70 individuals representing community and faith-based organizations, hospitals, Medicaid managed care companies, pharmaceutical organizations, and local and State health departments.
Jane is editor of the New Jersey Vaccine Voice, a quarterly publication of the New Jersey American Academy of Pediatrics, the Delaware Valley Immunization Coalition, the Essex Metro Immunization Coalition, the Medical Society of New Jersey, the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians and the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. The newsletter is distributed to healthcare professionals throughout the State and provides timely immunization information.
Jane also responds to Requests for Proposals and receives grant funding. She was awarded a $150,000 grant from Johnson and Johnson to help increase infant immunization rates in Irvington. To do so, she hired a staff of outreach workers who recruit moms and their children without insurance residing in Irvington. The program is being conducted in conjunction with the new Irvington Community Health Center, one of six federally qualified health centers in Greater Newark.
Recent legislation has made the New Jersey Immunization Information System (NJIIS) the State's official immunization registry. Jane manages two staff members who recruit and train pediatric practices in the use of this web-based database. Providers who wish to be trained can call Jane at: 973.268.2287. Prior to joining Gateway, Jane worked at UMDNJ-University Hospital, the State Department of Labor, and the United States Departments of Labor and Commerce. She earned her MPH from UMDNJ-RWJ School of Public Health, and a MA in public policy from the Eagleton Institute.
